Play Prop HuntCan you play Prop Hunt online for free?
Yes. xFPS is a free browser FPS, and Prop Hunt is available under Hide & Seek on its Play screen, next to Shooters, Zombies and Football. The page loads like any website, so there is nothing to install and nothing to update.
You can jump in as a guest. Guest progress is saved on the device you play on; sign in if you want it on your account and on other devices. Prop Hunt is online only, because it needs other people: there is no offline or bot version of it.

How to play Prop Hunt online in four steps
No separate installation is needed. Your browser still downloads the game files on the first visit, so leave time for the map to load before starting with friends.
- Open xFPS and go to the Play screen. Use Change game and pick Hide & Seek.
- Open Choose modes and select Classic Prop Hunt, Hardcore Prop Hunt or both. Public queues never mix the two.
- Press Find Match. Quick Play joins an open Prop Hunt room, or opens one and waits until a second person arrives.
- When the round starts, the game tells you your role. Hiders get 25 seconds to disguise and hide. Hunters wait behind a black screen until the hunt begins.

How does Prop Hunt work?
Every round has two sides. Hiders turn into objects from the map and try not to get caught. Hunters search the area and shoot anything that looks wrong. A round runs in three phases:
- Hiding time (25 s). Hiders move, disguise and settle in. Hunters cannot move or see the map.
- The hunt (150 s, or 105 s with two or three players). Hunters search; hiders try to stay unseen while automatic taunts give away their position from time to time.
- Results (8 s). The winning side is shown, then the next round starts with new roles.
Prop Hunt rules for hiders
Every hider starts the round as a wooden crate. Aim at an eligible object within about five metres and use Transform to copy it. Rotate the disguise in 45-degree steps to line it up with its surroundings, then Lock to freeze your position and angle. You can unlock, move and transform again at any time; transforming has a one-second cooldown.
Hiders play in third person, so you can see how your disguise sits in the room. Standard props move with the same body as a normal player, a little faster than a walking hunter but slower than a sprinting one. Big props, like the sofa, vending machine or giant rubber duck, are heavy: they move at a crawl, cannot jump and stop at doorways where the whole object does not fit.
The catch is noise. Hiders taunt automatically every 25 seconds (every 20 seconds with two or three players), and faster near the end of the hunt. You can also taunt on purpose for a few bonus points.
Prop Hunt rules for hunters
Hunters carry a Desert Eagle with a seven-round magazine and unlimited reserve ammo. Ammo is not the limit; search energy is. You have 100 energy. A shot that misses a hider costs 20, a hit costs only 3, and energy refills at 8 per second when you hold fire. Below 20 energy you cannot shoot.
Each hit does 34 damage, so three hits catch a hider. A white HIDER HIT marker confirms a hit, and a red HIDER CAUGHT marker confirms the catch. Shooting a real prop shows nothing and costs you the full 20.

Caught hiders spectate until the next round
A caught hider is out for the rest of the round and watches until the next one. They do not switch to the hunting team. A new player joining an ongoing round can enter as a hunter after a short deployment delay.
How many hunters are there?
One hunter for every four players, rounded up: one hunter with two to four players, two with five to eight, three with nine to twelve. Roles rotate. Whoever has started as hunter the fewest times goes next, so everyone gets a turn on both sides.
Try both roles tonightBring one friend and you can play a full match in about ten minutes.
Start Prop HuntClassic, Hardcore and Hide ’n Seek: which rules?
Choose Hide & Seek on the Play screen for six variants: Classic Prop Hunt, Hardcore Prop Hunt and four Hide ’n Seek choices (Classic or Scary, each with Freeze or Move freely). All of them support online matchmaking and custom matches with friends. The table compares the two Prop Hunt modes with Classic Hide ’n Seek.
| Rule | Classic | Hardcore | Classic Hide ’n Seek |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hiding time | 25 s | 25 s | 40 s |
| Hunt | 150 s (105 s with 2–3 players) | 150 s (105 s with 2–3 players) | 150 s with 2 players, 180 s with 3+ |
| Disguise | Copy props | Copy props | None, you stay human |
| Hits to catch | 3 | 3 | 1 |
| Automatic taunts | Yes | Yes | No |
| Hiders win the round when | One hider survives the hunt | One hider escapes through the exit | One hider survives the hunt |
Classic Prop Hunt
The version most people know. If at least one hider is still uncaught when the hunt timer hits zero, the hiders win the round. Hunters have to catch everyone.
Hardcore Prop Hunt
Surviving is only half the job. When the hunt ends, one random exit opens for 25 seconds, marked by a cyan EXIT beacon, with an arrow and distance on screen. Get inside and stay on the ground for three seconds to escape; jumping or stepping out resets the progress. One escape wins the round for the hiders. Anyone still hiding when the exit closes is caught.
Classic Hide ’n Seek
The old playground game with guns. Hiders stay human, get 40 seconds to find a spot anywhere on the full map, and then freeze in place, though they can still look around. One pistol hit catches them, and there are no automatic taunts at all. Select Classic Hide ’n Seek under Hide & Seek and press Find Match, or set up a custom match with friends. See the classic hide and seek online guide for the human-hiding rules and setup.
How you win: rounds and points
Each round has a winning side, but the match winner is the player with the highest personal score across all rounds. A Quick Play match is three rounds; in a custom match the host picks anywhere from one to nine.
| Action | Points |
|---|---|
| Catch a hider as a starting hunter | 100 |
| Catch a hider after joining mid-round | 50 |
| Survive the hunt (Classic) | 150 |
| Survive the hunt (Hardcore) | 25 |
| Escape through the exit (Hardcore) | 150 |
| Manual taunt (first three per round) | 5 each |
Because roles rotate, everyone gets rounds on both sides to build a score. Quick Play Prop Hunt earns XP; custom matches do not award XP or other progression.
Once you know the rules, our Prop Hunt tips and tricks show how to use them: where to hide, how to handle taunts and how hunters stop wasting energy.
Play Prop Hunt online with friends
Prop Hunt is at its best with people you can hear laughing when a garden gnome in the corner honks at them. There are two ways to get your group in.
Party up and use Quick Play
On Home, press Invite friend beside your player and share the quick link. Friends who open it join your party, up to six people. The party leader picks Prop Hunt and presses Find Match, and the whole group goes in together. Roles are still assigned by the game, so your friends may end up on the other side.
Create a custom match
- On the Play screen, choose Create custom match.
- As host, open Match settings and set the mode to Prop Hunt Classic, Prop Hunt Hardcore or Classic Hide ’n Seek. Pick a map and the number of rounds.
- Share the room’s invite link or code. Friends open the link, or go to Browse lobbies and use Join with code.
- Press Start preparation. Everyone presses Ready and the match begins.
Keep the room invite-only or list it publicly so others can join. After the match your group returns to the same lobby, and the host can change the mode or map without new invites.
Prop Hunt with just two or three people
Small groups get rules tuned for them. With two or three people the hunt is 105 seconds instead of 150, automatic taunts come every 20 seconds, and the map is one of five compact search areas: Cargo, Close Q., Suburb, Frontier or Gun House. Two players is effectively a 1v1: one hides, one hunts, and you swap each round.

Prop Hunt maps
Fourteen xFPS maps have Prop Hunt layouts: Cargo, Close Q., Foundry, Shipyard, Suburb, Frontier, Old Town, Breakwater, Ridgeline, Gun House, Dockworks, Railworks, Blue Clover and Greyhaven. Prop Hunt plays inside a marked search district rather than the whole map, and groups of six or fewer get a smaller district than big lobbies.
Each round deals a fresh set of themed props across the district. Every form a hider can copy has at least three identical twins standing around, and a hider’s disguise uses exactly the same model as the scenery, with no outline, name tag or radar dot. Hunters have to tell them apart by placement, movement and sound.

Prop Hunt on PC and mobile: controls
On a PC or laptop, xFPS runs in the browser with mouse and keyboard. These are the default hider keys; you can rebind them in Settings, and the HUD always shows your current keys.
| Action | Default key |
|---|---|
| Transform into the prop you aim at | F |
| Rotate left / right (45° steps) | Q / R |
| Lock or unlock position and rotation | V |
| Taunt | T |
| Prop Hunt standings | Tab |
Hunters use the normal FPS controls: move, sprint, jump, aim and fire. Movement and jump work the same for hiders.
On phones, turn the screen to landscape. Hiders get Transform, Rotate, Lock and Taunt buttons, and gun controls they cannot use are hidden. For everything else about controls, modes and parties, see How to play xFPS.
