PLAYER GUIDE
Your first match.
Your next favourite mode.
xFPS is a free browser FPS with online matches, custom matches and bot practice. You can start casual play as a guest. There’s no game installation; you need JavaScript and a WebGL-capable browser.
This guide covers the online game at xfps.io. The separate Offline Edition on game portals has different features.
01 / GET STARTED
Choose how you want to play
Open xFPS and choose a game on the Play screen. Under Shooters, select Casual and the modes you want Quick Play to search. Team Deathmatch is about your team’s kills; Free-for-all puts every player on their own.
Choose Offline with bots to practise without other players, or use the Practice range to try your aim and controls. Some casual online modes also use bots to fill places. Ranked requires sign-in and human opponents.
02 / PLAY TOGETHER
Get friends into the same room
Create a custom match to choose the map and rules with your group. Keep it invite-only or list it publicly so other players can join.
- On the Play screen, choose Create custom match. In the lobby, the host uses Match settings to choose the mode, map and rules.
- Share the room’s invite link or code with your friends.
- Friends open the invite link, or open Browse lobbies and choose Join with code to enter the code.
- Choose teams while the lobby is waiting. The host presses Start preparation; guests choose a class where offered and press Ready. Ready players enter automatically.
For Prop Hunt, bring at least two human players. Bot practice cannot replace the opposing human role. For shooter modes, check the bot setting if your group wants extra opponents.
After the match, your group returns to the hosted lobby. The host can choose another mode or map without sending a new invite. With bot fill, friends can share a team; without bots, team balance can limit your choice.
03 / PLANT OR DEFEND
Search & Destroy
Two teams take turns attacking and defending bomb sites A and B. You have one life per round: after you die, you watch the remaining players until the next round.
When you’re attacking
Follow the bomb marker and walk over the loose bomb to pick it up automatically. Only its carrier can plant it. Take it to A or B and hold the interaction control when the plant prompt appears. The team HUD tells you who has the bomb. Once it is planted, protect it until it detonates.
When you’re defending
Keep attackers away from both sites. If they plant, follow the planted-bomb marker, reach the device and hold the interaction control to defuse it. Killing the last attacker after the plant does not remove the need to defuse.
Before a plant, eliminating the other team can decide the round; a timeout favours the defenders. Standard matches are first to six round wins, and attack/defence switches every round. Custom-room hosts can change the round target.
04 / SURVIVE TOGETHER
Zombies
Fight through waves of zombies, earn match points and spend them on weapons and equipment. Staying alive takes more than firing at the nearest enemy: leave yourself space to move and keep an eye on your squad.
Select Zombies and a squad size: Solo, Duo, Trio or Quad. Solo starts your own run. Larger online squads wait briefly for humans, then AI teammates fill open places. New players cannot join after the run starts, so get your group together first. Offline play is also available with bots.
You start with the mode’s pistol. Between waves, open the Store with B on desktop or the Store button on touchscreens. Most purchases happen during the break; wall weapons and ammo can still be bought during a wave by interacting with their markers.
If a teammate goes down, get close and hold the interaction control to revive them. You also begin with one self-revive: hold the same control while downed to use it. Watch the wave indicator and your ammunition, and keep space around teammates who need help.
05 / AIM FOR THE GOAL
First-person Football
In Football, you move the ball by shooting it and try to score in the opposing goal. Your shots move the ball; they do not damage players. Get behind the ball relative to your target and aim your shot. Positioning matters: chasing straight behind it can leave your own goal open.
Choose Football on the Play screen, then select the rules and players per team. Sizes range from 1v1 to 11v11; the field and match timing depend on the selected size.
- Standard: play without power-ups.
- Power-ups: collect pickups on the field, then use the interaction control to activate the power-up you’re carrying.
- Knife Only: get close and swing at the ball.
The power-up variant uses Speed Burst and Power Shot. Pickups are contested, so reaching one before the other team can help your next play. Speed Burst gives a short movement boost; Power Shot strengthens your next ball hit during its activation window. Watch the HUD for the power you have and its active state.
During the final kickoff countdown you can look, crouch and aim, but movement and attacks are locked until play starts. Matches have two halves; a tie goes to extra time, then golden goal if needed.

Why won’t the mouse look around?
Your browser needs a click before the game can capture the mouse. Click the game’s Enable mouse look prompt if it appears. Returning from a menu or another tab can require another click.
Can I turn down movement effects or change performance?
Open Settings for graphics quality, sensitivity and separate audio controls. Camera comfort options let you reduce motion, head bob and shake. Lower graphics quality can help with low frame rates; it does not remove network delay.
Where are the rules during a match?
Open the match menu and look for How to play this match. Its tips reflect the mode and your current controls. Use those prompts if a custom room’s settings differ from this guide.
